Nicodemus might also have been crying out to God the very same question. In context, Jesus is talking to Nicodemus. The gospel reading today is well-known: “For God so loved the world…” (Jn 3:16) In a way it is an answer to this preeminent question. Then I’ll ask, “What are the reasons lack of trust, or this need to control?” Oftentimes the same profound question surfaces: “Does God love me?” because I don’t feel beloved, I don’t think I am not lovable, and looking at the panorama of my life, there is no way God can’t possibly love me. Then we go deeper to trust, control, and pride. Then we go deeper and explore issues like impatience, anger, and betrayal. We start out talking about life and its various activities. The question echoes deep within many I have met for spiritual direction. But in my heart, I struggle to appreciate the depth of this love and how it can change my life It is a question that I know in my head that the answer is yes. It is the question that trumps all of the other questions. When life gets hard or or discouraging, many cry out at night with inexpressible groanings to God with this question: Do you love me? Yet too often, we don’t feel like we belong in this love. God wants nothing more than to bring you into this love. ![]() God has expanded this love dynamic into the world. As Saint John said, “God is love.” God is the love that flows between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Liturgy today honors the Most Holy Trinity. The point of reflection is to make sure that the things you’re pursuing continue to matter to you even as life changes around you. It’s a great way to declutter your mind and unplug at the end of the day. Reward yourself by checking all the stuff you’ve gotten done, and log things you forgot to earlier etc. When you’re about to turn in, simply sit down with your notebook and review the day. Ideally, you keep your Bullet Journal close-by during the day so you can capture and track things as they arise, but life is life, and sometimes things don’t get written down. The AM reflection helps clear and focus your mind. If you’re anything like me, it also allows you capture all the thoughts that have bubbled up during the night. ![]() The morning reflection helps you to mentally prepare for the day. I suggest doing it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Set a time aside in the morning and in the evening to review your Bullet Journal. The system was designed to be flexible in both form and function to deal with our day to day but also phase to phase. How we spend those resources is really important. The most valuable things in life are our energy and our time. In our daily lives, we’re constantly distracted by all the thing we should be doing or could be doing. What’s significantly more important, and more interesting, to keep track of, is the why. Sure, having a system to effectively keep track of what you’re working on is important. Practice? Yes, Bullet Journaling is just as much a mindfulness practice as it is a productivity system. ![]() This truth is a foundational principle for Bullet Journaling as a practice.
